Inaugural lecture for the ICM-SBI collaboration: Hiroaki Kitano “Nobel Turing Challenge – Creating the Engine of Scientific Discover” (26.11.2020)
ICM UW develops and provides an AI-based Taxila framework for fast and practical analysis of scientific texts
Thanks to the cooperation between the Interdisciplinary Centre for Mathematical and Computer Modelling of the University of Warsaw and The Systems Biology Institute Tokyo, and the resources of the Virtual Library of Science, dozens of doctors and scientists from recognized centers across Poland have already benefited from workshops dedicated to the use of Taxila in oncology and in COVID-19 research. As part of these workshops, the integration of Taxila with WBN currently allows for the analysis of 25,000 full-text scientific articles – mainly from Springer and Elsevier journals – and is constantly being enlarged with new texts.

A research effort built around an automation platform that connects data and analytics applications will focus on advancing the use of AI and machine learning in bioscience and medical applications. The centerpiece of the R&D agreement between ICM University of Warsaw and Tokyo-based Systems Biology Institute (SBI) is the Garuda connectivity and automation platform. Garuda is used to link devices and tools ranging from open- source Jupyter notebooks that share code and visualizations to bioscience apps. The partners said Monday (Dec. 14) they would initially focus on AI-driven bioinformatics and genomics applications as well as computational systems biology.
